Mary-Helen has over 20 years experience as a financial manager in a variety of entrepreneurial companies, both private and public. Prior to Mercury, Mary-Helen was the CFO at Sternhill Partners, a Houston-based venture capital fund. Prior to Sternhill, she served as the CFO of SunGard Energy Systems, a software business unit of SunGard Data Systems, where she helped manage a major turnaround of the business. Before SunGard, Mary-Helen served as VP Finance for Applied Science Fiction, a start-up digital imaging company, where she managed accounting and finance functions, which included raising debt and venture capital. Prior to Applied Science Fiction, Mary-Helen in senior financial roles for other technology companies such as Trilogy Software, Tivoli Systems and Software Spectrum. Mary-Helen began her career with Coopers & Lybrand as a management consultant in Austin, TX. Her career with C&L took her to Brussels, Belgium for three years where she worked on projects located throughout Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia. She has a BBA in Accounting from Texas Christian University and a MBA from the University of Chicago, specializing in Finance and International Business.
In addition to Mercury, Mary-Helen provides part-time CFO services for Sternhill Partners, SURGE Accelerator, and Wellpath Energy Services. She also offers her time working with entrepreneurs through various workshops and events, teaching “Financial Modeling” at the Houston Technology Center (HTC) and the Rice Alliance, judging the annual Rice Business Plan Competition, and as a Board Member of the Houston Angel Network (HAN).
